When you're pregnant, sometimes it's the little things you can't live without. Whether it's a simple way to make your belly stop itching, something to get you through the night, or clothes that make it easier to move around, these basics make life simpler, calmer, and more comfortable for BabyCenter moms-to-be.
1. Body pillow

"My body pillow is a lifesaver. I sleep with it every night, lounge on the couch with it, even wrap it around my back while sitting in a chair. I recommend that every pregnant woman buy one." — Julie

"A body pillow was a lifesaver once I got big during my first pregnancy. I waited too long for this invaluable sleep aid. If you're having trouble sleeping because of discomfort, give this a try." — Denise

"A pregnancy body pillow: It saved my life as well as my back and hips. It eases stiff joints for all of us who suffer from them." — Cute and Married

"The thing that helped me most during my pregnancy was my pregnancy pillow. It was wonderful. Even my husband thought it was comfortable. I had to give it up after the baby was born so my husband wouldn't feel rejected. It really was wonderful for my back and stomach as my pregnancy progressed." — Karin

A 3D animated look at a baby in the second trimester of pregnancy.

"Definitely the body pillow. Even after seven years (my daughter is 7), I'm still using it. Now that I'm 4 months pregnant, I've purchased two more. Putting one behind you while you hug the other is the best! It's great support for my entire body." — Cheryl

"My full-body-sized pillow is my essential item. It's so much more comfortable than stuffing bed pillows everywhere. I just nestle into that big pillow and sleep comfortably all night long." — Carly
2. Belly support

"I love the elastic belly belt. I had been having a lot of pubic pain from about 18 weeks on (I'm at 26 weeks now), and it's all but gone just from wearing the belt! It prevents the achy, swollen discomfort that would worsen as the day progressed. I recommend it highly." — Elizabeth

"With my pregnancies I've used support belts (also called 'bands') and belly 'sleeves' (kind of like support hose for tummies!). Both were super helpful in the second half of pregnancy and made walking around with a weighty belly so much more comfortable."  — Lila

"I'm 7 months along and have had lots of problems with my back and pelvic bones. So my mother, who used to work in a maternity store, told me to try what they call a belly belt. They're the best things in the whole world. They're light and small, not big contraptions, and provide almost instant relief once you put them on. And they usually only run about $20." — Jamie

"The pregnancy support belt has been a lifesaver for me. I got it at a maternity store for $13. I probably would have paid $53 for it if I had to, since without it I could barely walk across the room without my right side becoming so painful that I was near tears." — Janelle
3. Morning sickness relief

"I keep a plastic baggie full of crackers in my purse to snack on anytime, anywhere." — Marsha

"I had horrible morning sickness the first trimester. Popsicles helped, especially the fruit-and-juice kinds. My husband also bought me suckers called preggie pops. They come in several different flavors, but my favorites were the lavender and ginger." — Jennifer

"I had really bad morning sickness and nothing seemed to work. A friend told me her midwife said to eat peanuts when you feel nauseated, and it worked for me. The protein keeps the nausea at bay." — Natasha

"I use the  wristbands people use to stop sea sickness. They really help me, although when I first put them on the pressure was uncomfortable. My husband makes fun of me and calls them my super-hero bands. They're not the most fashionable things, but I'll do anything to stop the nausea." — Anonymous
4. Pregnancy bra solutions

"The simplest and best pregnancy items were bra extenders. I got them at a lingerie store for only a few bucks, and they saved me so much money. I went from a pre-pregnancy 34D to a 40DDD by about 12 weeks! I would buy new bras and outgrow them in a week. With the extenders, I could still wear the 'smaller' new bras just by letting out the ribcage portion." — Diana

"This is my first pregnancy, and I really didn't think I would use those sleep bras. But they're great. I was a 40D to start with and these really help keep my breasts from getting squished while I'm trying to sleep." — 1st Mom at 37

"I'm 16 weeks and already I've discovered the importance of a comfy bra. Don't buy a bra just because the fitter in the shop says it's right for you. If you've any doubts about how it'll feel at the end of the working day, say no and use your own judgment." — Due Mayday

"My nursing bras and maternity underwear are my lifesavers!" — Sarah

"The sports breastfeeding bra I treated myself to is so wonderful. I have to wear a bra to bed, and the underwire from my other bras just killed me. Then I found this sports bra. It was a gift from heaven!" — Christine
5. Soothing skin lotion

"Organic olive oil. I use it all the time on my belly, breasts and butt... feels great after a shower. My skin has never been softer, and no stretch marks!" — Magmom

Cocoa Butter lotion and massage oil are my essentials. Black women can get really bad stretch marks, but I have none because I used this combo from six weeks on, every day, twice a day." — Kimberly

"Aloe vera gel! This is my second time being in my third trimester during the summer. My feet get so hot and swollen at night, and it's hard to sleep. I keep a bottle of green aloe vera gel in the fridge and massage some on my feet at night before bed. Ah, sweet relief." — Purpledaisy

"Oil that I massage it in before applying my lotion. It's not really oily and it absorbs fast and leaves my skin soft all day. It's supposed to help with old and new stretch marks. Plus, it claims to help with a lot of other things, like preventing tears during labor if you massage it into your perineum." — Paige8608
6. Fetal doppler

"I love my home doppler. I rented it when I was 11 weeks pregnant, and any time I felt nervous, I just listened in. It was also fun for my family to hear the heartbeat since they aren't at our ob-gyn visits. I thought I'd only want it for a month or two, but I'm keeping it until I deliver!" — Pam

"My fetal doppler! I don't really consider myself a nervous person, but every now and then I just wanted to reassure myself that everything was okay in there — especially about week 18, when I still hadn't gained any weight. I still use it even though I can feel the kicks — now it's just fun to hear the heartbeat." — Pamela

"I bought a fetal doppler so I could hear my baby's heartbeat. It's so great — I've been using it since I was 9 weeks and it helps me relax and really enjoy the pregnancy, just knowing I can hear that heartbeat and know he's okay whenever I want. I highly recommend it!" — Anonymous

"The one thing that has helped me the most is my fetal doppler. I was only planning to rent it for a month, but have kept it for three already. It has really put my mind at ease, more than once. It's also fun for the rest of the family to 'listen in.'" — Amanda
7. Dresses, sweats, leggings, and yoga pants

"I can't live without my cotton dresses. They're by far the most comfortable thing in my maternity wardrobe. And with a few accessories they always look fabulous, even when I'm not feeling fabulous." — Lindalee2

"Wrap dresses a size larger than I'd normally wear are very comfortable and less expensive than maternity dresses. I had several wrap dresses from before I was pregnant that I can still wear at 28 weeks because they have all that extra material. I bought a few new ones in larger sizes and I'll be able to wear them after I have my baby, too." — Anonymous

"My little black stretchable dress. I just put on an accessory like an eye-catching necklace or a cute scarf and I look beautiful, made up, and elegant, despite my burgeoning tummy." — Ripemango

"With my first child, I wore a great pair of yoga pants, flattering but very comfortable." — Anonymous

"You can pair leggings with long T-shirts, dresses, sweaters, cute sneakers, heels, flats...just about anything! I'm starting month 9 and leggings have been a lifesaver for me." — Saraz

"I cannot live without my stretchy leggings. They're comfy and easy to put on, plus they stretch as you grow! I wear them with my smocked over-sized dress top with my beaded flip-flops and I look great!" — Psychedelikat

"Maternity sweatpants. That and ice cream!" — Bostongirl12

"I've been wearing stretchy gaucho pants. They're not maternity, but they're so comfy and they stretch as you grow." — EmilyMK81
8. Slide-on shoes

"Flip-flops. With swollen feet, they're all that fit. Be sure to pick up some cute, supportive ones in fashion-forward colors." — Jen

"Slip-on shoes are the one thing I can't live without." — Anonymous

"As horribly ugly as they are, I can't live without those cheap, colorful clogs. I can slip them on even though I can't see my feet, and they're never tight no matter how swollen my feet get. They're also extremely supportive and cushy. Marshmallow shoes!" — LadyMarian
9. Wardrobe extenders

"Thank goodness for stretchy maternity camisoles and tank tops. They cover up my wardrobe extender: a rubber band looped through the buttonhole and around the button of my pants. And if you pull one down to hip level over a non-maternity skirt, it keeps you from looking like a big bell." — Anonymous

"A maternity band for my belly has been such a lifesaver! I spent much less money on it than I would have buying several new pairs of shorts and pants for early pregnancy. Mine came in three sizes, so I got the small size for the first half of pregnancy (to use with my pre-pregnancy clothes) and one size up for the second half (to help keep my maternity pants up)." — Cindyck83

"You can use a hair tie to extend your jeans or pants by putting it through the button hole and then looping both ends around the button or fastener. It works great!" — Anonymous
